Leisure holidays in Britain are increasing moving to the outdoor sphere as people regard the simple pleasures of outdoor life, and more affordable pricing a clear benefit. Outdoor leisure holidays generally fall into two main categories; these are caravanning or motor-homing and camping. Both options can be seen as a cost effective way to take a family holiday, while giving the chance to enjoy leisure activities and do the bonding that psychologists are so fond of. Here are a few outdoor activities and holidays that will be fun for you and your family.
Outdoor leisure activities have a wide variety of benefits; many will be healthy and help you improve fitness while others may give your brain a workout. Sports are a brilliant way to keep kids entertained and the perfect outdoor activity on a sunny day. It is easy when going camping or caravanning to take a sports set such as goalposts, a badminton net or cricket stumps as they are light and will not take a lot of room in your car. While you may think the outlay for the equipment may be expensive, the leisure time you will be able to have using them will surpass this cost. Depending upon the campsite where you are staying you may even be able to undertake waterskiing or kayaking as more active leisure pursuits.
The campsite you are staying at will have different leisure activities to keep the children entertained. Some may even have provisions for entertaining children so the parents can have time to relax and enjoy their holiday also. Many have bicycle hire facilities allowing you to get out into the countryside and enjoy the sublime scenery. Your ultimate goal when going on an outdoor leisure holiday is to have fun and enjoy yourself; whether this means letting the kids be entertained by a camp rep or taking them with you, the choice is yours.
There is so much to do on an outdoor leisure holiday. If you’re staying within the mountainous regions of Britain such as the Lake and Peak districts it will be possible to undertake some more extreme pursuits. Maybe you should consider rock-climbing or abseiling as a pursuit that will entertain all members of your party. These kinds of activities not only help you bond with your family but can help build characteristics such as confidence. Canoeing and kayaking is a brilliant way to perform the same kind of activity if you happen to be a vertigo sufferer. After all, messing around on the river is the most English of outdoor leisure activities.
Camping is one of the best ways to get outdoors. It is not even the case that you must stay in campsites, although it is advisable. If you would like to undertake a trekking holiday, getting a lightweight tent and equipment is essential; hiking through some of the most beautiful scenery in Britain can be tiresome work, so having the right equipment will be a great help.
It is not just extreme activities that can form part of your outdoor leisure holiday. Sitting by the river, with rod in hand hoping to catch a fish is one of the most delightful experiences in life. You do not even have to catch a fish, sometimes the pleasure of fishing is just sitting in amongst beautiful scenery watching life on the river go by.
Outdoor leisure activities are so diverse that discussing them in one article is a Herculean task. You can be sure however that this type of holiday will be brilliant for you and your family. Getting out into the countryside and enjoying the simple pleasures of outdoor life is highly advisable. Just hope the infamous British weather holds out so you can actually head outdoors.

Why An Outdoor Leisure Holiday Will Be Perfect For Your Family Life
Sunday, August 22nd, 2010Discovering Cheap Outdoor Summer Activities For Kids
Thursday, August 19th, 2010Having fun with your kids this summer should not be a hassle or expensive. You have many options in your own backyard or nearby parks or recreational areas. Make a summer of fun your kids will remember forever.
When the summer heat is getting to you, consider water fun on your own property. Set up a cheap kiddie pool, a slip and slide, or a sheet of plastic, or even a regular sprinkler and let the kids run through it. Invite their friends over to play and provide an easy-to-eat treat like popsicles. Decorate your driveway or sidewalk with wet footprints or handprints. Play with squirt guns or spray bottles. Have a water balloon fight. Blow bubbles. Make mud pies. Play in the rain. Wash the car and spray the kids with the hose. Let them get you wet, too.
In the cool of morning, evening or on moderate weather days, have a day to enjoy nature. You could call it a nature hike. Visit a walking path at a local park or find a new trail to hike. A nature hike can be just a walk or it can be more than that. Think of off-roading a little bit. What kinds of rocks, leaves, plants and flowers can the kids find? Have them use a bag to store their favorites. When you get back home, go online and research the names of the plants you collected. Here are some more ideas for fun with nature: take pictures of nature with a camera. Take the kids to a scenic area with a set of watercolors and ask them to paint what they see. If you live close to the ocean or lake, pack a lunch, sunscreen, drinking water and some beach toys and go there. Spend the day digging in the sand, building sandcastles and searching for seashells. There are all kinds of ways of interacting with nature, like planting a vegetable or flower garden together. Visit a pick-your-own fruits farm. Instead of just having a picnic lunch at the brightest time of day, try having a sunset picnic at a park or beach. On the other hand, get up early, pack breakfast, and have a sunrise breakfast. Walk barefoot in the grass and pick the wildflowers, if it is allowed. Do some cooking outside on a grill or a campfire, or just toast marshmallows. Pitch a tent, perhaps even in your own backyard, and sleep outside. The moon, stars and planets are nature, too.
When thinking of summer activities for the kids there are always all kinds of games and sports. You do not have to join a team or class because they can get expensive, but if you have the resources and interest in pursuing that path, ask the kids if they would like to learn a new sport or activity. The summer is a great time to try something new without the commitment that often comes with starting it during the school year. Go for a bicycle ride around the neighborhood. Teach the kids some jump rope rhymes from your own childhood. There is hopscotch, too. Plan a scavenger hunt or a treasure hunt. For a scavenger hunt, all you need to do is create a list of twenty or so items that are frequently found outdoors in your area. Pass out the list to each of the kids. The first person or team to find everything, or the most items, and wins a small prize. For a treasure hunt leave clues around the house or yard, with each clue leading to the next clue, until they reach the treasure, maybe a snack or small prize. There are many more ideas for outdoor sports and games, like playing kickball with the neighborhood kids. Fly kites. Compete in a three-legged or other race. Create an obstacle course. Play freeze tag. Build paper airplanes and have a flying contest.
With some help from your kids, you may come up with many more ideas. Water, nature, and sports and games are great sources of cheap and healthy entertainment. The summer time is a great time to be outdoors, but please remember the sunscreen, hats and monitoring the amounts of sun exposure. Older kids with later bedtimes may even be able to enjoy many of these activities after the sun goes down.
Active Kids are Healthy Kids
Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010Active Kids Are Healthy Kids
Today’s technology is the downfall of healthy bodies. Kids have become less active, and they have more video games, computers, and television shows to keep them entertained. This means that kids are sitting and not getting the exercise they need to grow up with a healthy body. They have become couch potatoes. How can you motivate your kids and help them grow up healthy? This does not have to involve sports or formal exercise.
Kids and Indoor Chores
There is one definite way to make sure that your kids stay active. Kids need to do some household chores. No matter what their age, kids can begin to learn responsibly. While learning responsibility by doing chores, you are also promoting exercise in your kids. The kids do not realize that this is your goal, so it works. They usually think you are just being mean by making them clean and help with the routine house chores.
Your kids could do dishes, clean their rooms, sweep and mop the kitchen and bathroom floors, or even do some laundry. There is a way to keep kids active indoors without calling it exercise.
Outdoor Chores for Kids
Kids need to be outdoors when the weather is nice, or even when the weather is a bit chilly. There are outdoor chores that your kids can do to stay active. They can help with the lawn work such as mowing the grass, weeding, raking, or even shoveling the snow in the winter. Outdoor chores are endless as all parents realize, and kids can get plenty of exercise doing the things that you might not have time to do.
Family Fun Activities
Family time is another time to get the family out to enjoy some fun activities. Kids are more apt to participate in fun outdoor activities as long as you do not tell them it is exercise. You could keep your kids very active this way. They will never suspect that they are exercising as long as you make it a family outing. You could take a hike, visit fair grounds, walk on the beach, play volleyball or batmitten, or even go skiing.
A Fun Game
Fitness is important at any age. Kids need some form of exercise, but you do not have to call it by that name. The new Wii is beneficial for exercise, and you won’t have to beg your kids to play it. If you are going to buy your kids a video game, the Wii is the only one to consider.
The video game that comes with the unit has bowling, golfing, tennis, and boxing. Finally, a video designer has realized that kids today do not get the exercise they need from sitting down playing a video game. The Wii also has a fitness video, but chances are that kids will not enjoy that game as much as the others.
There are many things that kids can do to stay active; they just need to have some guidance. Whether it is doing chores, a family outing, or playing active video games, kids will get the exercise they need to stay healthy and not become sluggish and overweight.
